Health department observes Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day

JAMMU, OCTOBER 21: The Health department today observed Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day.
Deputy Director Schemes, Dr. Tasneema Banoo, was the chief guest on the occasion.
AD HEB, Dr. Sharda Parihar, Dy. CMO Dr. M.Y. Khan, DIO, Dr. Poonam Sethi besides other officers and officials from the Directorate of Health Services Jammu were present on the occasion.
ASHAs coordinators and ASHAs of Urban Jammu were the participants in the event which was held under the supervision of Divisional Nutrition Officer, Dr. Seema Gupta.
DNO sensitized the ASHAs about Iodine deficiency disorders like retarded physical and mental development, cretinism, congenital birth defects, goiter, abortions, still birth, increased prenatal mortality. She also explained that daily consumption of iodized salt can prevent all iodine deficiency disorders.
DD Schemes briefed that ASHAs, being link between Health department and the community, can aware the community about the importance of use of Iodized salt to prevent iodine deficiency disorders.
