BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 19: Advisor to Governor to Vijay Kumar today said that government will soon come up with an ambitious drug de-addiction policy for the total eradication of drug menace from the society.
The Advisor was speaking as chief guest during one day Orientation Programme of Interaction with the Juveniles and Parents. J&K High Court Judge Justice Ali Mohammad Magray was the guest of honour on the occasion. The programme was organized by District Judiciary in collaboration with District administration Baramulla with an aim to sensitize the children especially those in conflict with law.
Reiterating upon the government’s commitment for the welfare of children, the Advisor said that special counselling programmes are being conducted for those affected juveniles. He underlined the role of teachers, parents and other stakeholders with regard to drug menace and assured every support from the administration in curbing it.
On the occasion, lectures on the subject were delivered by luminaries during which they highlighted various aspects and acts, needed to be enforced properly for the eradication of the drug menace.
Justice Magray highlighted various endeavours on part of Judiciary in curbing the growing drug abuse. He presented a brief overview of Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act and said that any child below the age of 18, who commits any mistake be treated with special care. He also stressed upon the children and parents to identify their role and responsibilities besides terming dedication, commitment and fortitude as the key aspects of success. Moreover, he sought feedbacks and cooperation from different stakeholders in this regard.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo complimented the participants for their enthusiastic participation. He said that the district administration had launched a massive campaign in April this year that was meant for disseminating awareness regarding the causes and consequences of the menace.
Later, the Justice accompanied by the concerned authorities visited the drug de-addiction centre to review its functioning. The centre has been established in Old Hospital Baramulla by the Police department. Justice Magray interacted with the people undergoing the rehabilitation process.
