J&K decision in national interest; will not allow water to Pak: PM Modi

JAMMU: Asserting that the decision on J&K was taken in national interest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the whole country is standing with Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
While he was happy for the Kartarpur corridor project, Modi said India would not allow its water to flow to Pakistan.
Slamming the Congress over its stand on Article 370 and the Rafale deal, Modi also accused its leaders of bad-mouthing India and showing negativity on matters that bring joy to the people of the country.
Referring to the decisions on J&K, Modi said that the BJP has a clear mandate to take decisions in the national interest.
"We are fortunate that we have got the chance to fix the political and strategic failure that happened seven decades ago, to some extent. It was taken in national interest and the whole country is standing with Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,” he said.
“Whatever objections the Congress and its allies have, the BJP has a clear view that decisions will be taken for whatever is appropriate in the national interest," Modi said.
“Elections come and go and but the interest of the nation is supreme,” he said.
He slammed Congress leaders for spreading "lies" over Article 370.
"At a time when the country is hailing the decision to abrogate Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, a few Congress leaders were spreading lies in the country and the world about it."
Modi dared the Congress by saying: "If you have guts, then say we will bring Article 370 (if we are voted to power)."
He said in Jammu and Kashmir the government is taking big decisions to safeguard human rights.
“I ask so called spokespersons of human rights of the Congress, what have you done for those mothers who offer 'namaz' for protection of their sons?"
“In a few decades, 40,000 people have died in Jammu and Kashmir. A large number of them included our soldiers and several families from Haryana, whose brave sons laid down their lives for the security of the motherland,” he later said.
"For 70 years, the water which belongs to India and the farmers of Haryana flowed to Pakistan. Modi will stop this water (from flowing into Pakistan) and bring it to your houses," the Prime Minister said in an election meeting, the second in two days, in Charki Dadri in Haryana.
He said the farmers of Haryana and Rajasthan have the rights over the water that is flowing to Pakistan and was not being stopped by earlier Indian governments.
"Modi aapki ladai ladega (Modi will fight your battle)," he assured the people at the rally.
In another rally in Kurukshetra, Modi said he was happy that the Kartarpur corridor project was about to be completed.
He asked people at the Charkhi Dadri rally if they supported the Congress on Article 370.
“Should they not be punished severely? Would you do that on October 21?” he asked, predicting that the BJP-run state would give the opposition party a befitting reply.
Modi asked people at the Thanesar rally whether they are happy with the induction of the French fighter jet, saying the move had strengthened the Indian armed forces.
“But I don't know what happens to Congress leaders. They get upset over matters that bring joy to countrymen,” he said.
“It is not restricted only to the Rafale jet issue. On every issue on which India gets respect and recognition, the attitude of Congress leaders always remains negative,” he added.
“India gets an award for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, but they have problems. World leaders attend functions in India and give us awards. Even then they have sleepless nights and get upset over every issue,” he said.
Elections to the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held on October 21 along with 288-member Maharashtra Assembly. The counting of votes is on October 24.
