JAMMU: Asserting that non-participation of political parties in Block Development Council (BDC) polls of Jammu and Kashmir will not delegitimize the process, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the regional parties were not stopped by anyone from contest.
The Congress party has officially boycotted BDC polls while National Conference (NC) and People Democratic Party (PDP) has maintained distance citing reason that that their leaders-- who are empowered to take decision-- are under detention.
“Only three leaders including Omar Abdullah, Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are under detention while their cadre is free for campaign and participation. They boycotted elections by their choice,” Shah added.
“We did not stop anybody to participate in elections. Every block will see contest between BJP and Independent candidates and some other regional parties,” he added.
Pertinently, after the final withdrawal of nomination papers, 1065 candidates are in fray for the October 24 BDC polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
