Militants kill Rajasthani truck driver in Shopian

SRINAGAR: Violence returned in Valley on Monday when two militants, including a suspected Pakistani national, shot dead the driver of a Rajasthan truck and assaulted an orchard owner in Shopian district.
A truck driver from Rajasthan was shot and killed by militants in Sheermal village of Shopian district when he was loading apples, police said, adding that they also set on fire his truck.
The deceased has been identified as Sharief Khan, police said, adding that the militants carried out the attack in desperation as fruit transportation has picked up in the Valley.
One of the militants involved in the attack is suspected to be a Pakistani, they said.
Initial reports had said that the driver died after his truck was set afire by miscreants.
Sources say it was a joint group of militants belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen. Police have cordoned off the area and search operation is on.
The incident came on a day post-paid cellular services resumed in Kashmir after a 72-day communication clampdown following abrogation of Article 370 provisions.
Police said "there was resentment among the locals over the Monday incidents".
Meanwhile, police today arrested two militants associates from the Naranag area of Ganderbal district.
“On a credible input Ganderbal police along with security forces arrested two terrorist associates identified as Chandi Khatana and Wajid Ali Khatana both residents of Jandiwada Rajouri,” a police spokesman said.
According to police records both the arrested terrorist associates were part of proscribed terror outfit HM and were acting as couriers for active terrorists.
They were also responsible for supplying terrorists with logistics, transporting arms & ammunition and guiding active terrorists for carrying out terror attacks in the area thereby strengthening the terror networks and adding to the terrorist infrastructure in the area.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. All these incriminating materials have been seized by police to probe their complicity in terror crimes.
Case FIR No. 59/2019 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Kangan. They remain in police custody and further investigation in the matter is in progress.
