JAMMU: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday reviewed the prevailing security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, even as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed him of his assessment made during his ten day long stay in the State, which is under a security clampdown since the abrogation of Article 370 earlier this month.
The meeting, chaired by Shah, took place in Shah’s office in North Block at the Home Ministry. Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and senior intelligence officials were also present in the meeting.
This was for the first time that Doval met Shah after his return from the Kashmir Valley, where he stayed for about 10 days amid the security lockdown and personally monitored the situation before returning to Delhi recently.
It was Doval's first direct briefing for the Home Minister at his office, officials said.
“The NSA apprised the Home minister the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Shah reportedly called the meeting to review the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the steps taken to maintain the law and order situation in the state.
The issues related to restrictions imposed in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir were also figured in the meeting, the official said.
The restrictions were imposed on communication links and movement of people in Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 following the Centre's move to abrogate provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into union territories.
The two proposed Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir with an Assembly and Ladakh without one -- has been under the strict vigil of security forces and restrictions have been imposed there.
Mobile and internet facilities are also cut off since then by the government as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident in the Valley.
However, restrictions have gradually lifted in some areas in Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley, but the curb is still continuing in many parts.
