BJP’s Membership Drive || Only 20 percent target achieved, Central leadership seeks report

JAMMU: The curbs and restrictions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after revocation of Article 370 have played a spoilsport in BJP’s membership drive as the State BJP has failed to achieve the target given by the high command to enroll 17 lakh voters as primary members of the party.
“As against the given target of enrolling 17 lakh voters of Jammu and Kashmir as primary members of the party, the State BJP, despite all out efforts has been able to enroll mere 3.5 lakh voters as primary members of the party and that too through online mode,” insiders in the party informed The News Now.
They informed that the BJP high command, in written, today sought reasons and clarifications from the state unit about such poor enrollment in membership drive, which was launched nationwide.
The BJP membership drive was launched across J&K from July 6, and is going to close tomorrow i.e August 20. The BJP had targeted to rope in all 17 lakh voters who voted for it in 2019 LS polls, as basic members of the party during its membership drive.
“On the directions of the party high command, we have given the details about enrollment in membership drive in Jammu and Kashmir mentioning therein the reasons about low enrollment,” State Incharge, membership drive, Jugal Dogra informed The News Now.
Meanwhile, sources informed that BJP had given 7.04 lakh forms to its leaders for enrolling people as party’s primary members.
“So far not even a single filled form has been submitted by the leaders to the party office, despite the fact that the drive will officially close tomorrow” party insiders informed.
Sources also informed that the BJP state unit has requested the party high command to give its some more time to achieve the given target as curbs and restrictions after revocation of Article 370 played a spoilsport.
Jammu West accounted for maximum enrollment followed by Akhnoor and Jammu East, sources informed.
The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) had fixed a target to add 20 per cent more members in J&K besides roping in all the 17 lakh voters who voted for it across the state in the recently held Parliamentary polls.
The party decided to make all the 17 lakh voters as its basic members at its working committee meet at Jammu on June 16.
