Policeman posted with BDS arrested in Handwara, Heroin like contraband substance recovered

Srinagar: A cop posted with Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of Handwara Police was arrested with approximately 750 grams of heroin in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Saturday.

Official sources told that based on a specific input, officers established a naka at Chogul during which the cop was arrested and the narcotic substance (heroin) concealed in a polythene bag weighing 750 gms was recovered from his possession.

They said that One SANTRO car bearing registration number JK01V-1178 has also been seized in the matter.

As per tentative market value it is worth over Rs 20 lakhs, they said.

A police officer also confirmed the incident and identified the cop as Mushtaq Ahmad Pir (belt number 242) son of Abdul Ahad Pir, a resident of Kalmoona Vilgam.

Mushtaq, according to the Officer, is working with police department’s armed wing and was presently posted with BDS of Handwara police.

He said that an FIR 177/2019 under section 8/21 NDPS Act was registered and further investigations taken up.
