MVD organizes awareness prog on Road safety at Kulgam

KULGAM, JULY 11: Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kulgam in collaboration with District Information Centre Kulgam today organised an awareness cum cultural programme on road safety at Kulgam.
The programme titled “Alert today-Alive tomorrow” was attended by transporters, drivers, conductors and a large number of students from various schools, besides a large number of people from the area attended the programme.
During the camp free eye and general checkup of the drivers was conducted.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Kulgam Ghulam Hassan Sheikh who was also chief guest said that following traffic rules and regulations is our collective social responsibility. He advised the participants for using seat belts during driving, avoid the use of mobile phone while driving, avoid over speeding. He stressed for wearing helmet and seat belt while driving two- wheeler or four-wheeler to avoid fatal injuries. He also advised people to obey traffic rules.
Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kulgam Dr Mohammad Zubair Lattoo pointed out, "Ensuring road safety is one of the top priorities of the government.”
He said as around 1.5 lakh deaths are reported in around five lakh accidents every year. He said that in order to make our roads safer, there has to be a collaborative and a multi-pronged initiative that needs joint action from the administration, civic authorities, automobile industry, civil society and commuters in general.
Officials from MVD department, Health department and owners of different sumo and mini-bus stand association of Kulgam were present on the occasion.
