Chairman DLSA flags-off walkathon at Bandipora

BANDIPORA, JUNE 12: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora on Wednesday organized several awareness programmes in connection with the World Elder Abuse Awareness week.
A symbolic integrational walkathon was organized at Kaloosa wherein the senior citizens and school children marched with holding each other’s hands to send a message of love for senior citizens to the people. The walkathon was flagged off the Chairman DLSA Syed Sarfaraz Hussain Shah.
The walkathon culminated at DPL Bandipora wherein awareness program was organized. The speakers highlighted the issues faced by the senior citizens and stressed on ensuring a comfortable life for them.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah stressed on sensitizing the society about the ill-treatment to the senior citizens and said there is a need to acknowledge the issue and roll our heads to find a solution to it. He said besides laws, there is religious, social, humanitarian and ethical obligation everyone to respect the senior citizens and join hands to make their lives comfortable. He said the senior citizens are the people who brought up the new generation and it is the time to return the favors by making their life convenient, comfortable and hassle-free with dignity by taking care of their health and day today needs.
Later an awareness program was also organized for the jail inmates and Alternate Dispute Resolution Cell. The speakers highlighted the issues faced by the senior citizen jail inmates and stressed on redressal of the difficulties and grievances faced by them at Sub Jail Bandipora. The members of the Bar association highlighted the key provisions of senior citizens act
Several speakers spoke on the occasion and discussed various aspects of the theme and urged the younger generation to respect the senior citizens and lend a helping hand to them to make their life peaceful.
