Jammu, May 25: A team of Food Supply on Saturday conducted surprise inspection of shops selling momos and Chinese food in Gorkha Nagar of Bahu Fort area here.

The Food supply team assisted by the police this afternoon visited to the Bahu Fort area and inspected all the shops being run inside small houses in every nook and corner of Gorkha Nagar.

“We have received several complaints about sale of momos and Chinese food in these shops, which are running without having any authorized or registered license,” an official said.

He said that on reaching to the spot, it was found that there were numerous shops operating in the area and it has become a hub of seling momos and Chinese food items.
“There is no check on these items and we have collected the samples from each and every shop, which will be sent to the Food Testing laboratory to ascertain hygienic and safety for consumption,” he added.

An official said that the shops will be closed and sealed if found not maintaining the hygienic level and added, “the reports will be submitted by the laboratory in two weeks following which further action will be taken.”

Pertinent to mention here that momos and Chinese food is being sold openly in every part of Jammu City and there is no check on it.

BJP MLC Ramesh Arora had also raised this issue last year and demanded blanket ban on sale of momos and Chinese food in Jammu asserting that its consumption is not safe for human health but despite that, no action was initiated by the government.
