Weather turns pleasant after 2 days below normal temperature in Kashmir

Srinagar, May 25 : Weather turned pleasant on Saturday after recording below normal temperature due to rain for the past two days in the Kashmir valley, where people in hilly and remote areas could be still seen wearing warm cloths because of cold.

However, a Met department spokesman said there could be isolated light rain and thundershowers over the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. Isolated light rain and thundershowers to mainly dry weather is predicted during the subsequent two days.

Sun came out today, much to the delight of the people, after remaining behind the clouds for the past about two days resulting in drop in the mercury due to rain in the valley. Due to drop in the temperature because of rain, people living near hills were seen wearing warm cloths, including “Pheran”. Many people in the city were also wearing half or full slaves sweaters because of cold. There was 4.5 degree to about 12 degree below normal maximum temperature in the valley on Friday.

However, weather turned pleasant today with sun out and people enjoying the sunshine in the Kashmir, where tourists from plains of the country, where heat waves continues, are visiting tourist places, particularly world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, health resort of Pahalgam and Sonamarg, where snow could still be seen on the both sides of the road.

People in Srinagar, where restrictions and spontaneous strike after the killing of Zakir Musa by security forces, continued for the second day on Saturday, were seeing basking in sun after remaining confined in their homes yesterday when there was rain and drop in the mercury. However, Mughal gardens and Dal Lake almost wore a deserted look with only tourists enjoying the pleasant weather.

Spokesman said the sky would be partly cloudy to very light rain and thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be 23 degree and 11 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where the maximum temperature yesterday was 16.7 degree, 8.1 notches below normal due to 4 mm rainfall during the day. Minimum temperature in the city today was 10.4 degree, 1.3 notches below normal.
