Suspended for absence, was SHO Vijaypur in court at 6 in morning?

JAMMU: Station House Officer (SHO) Vijaypur Rakesh Bamba was placed under suspension after he was found absent from the station in a surprise inspection carried out at 6 am on Friday morning by Deputy Inspector of General (DIG) Jammu-Kathua range Sujit Kumar.

Oblivious to his suspension, the officer came to know of his action four hours later inside a court premise, carrying a case dairy of FIR NO 49/2017 before court, as directed by DIG Kumar, himself.

DIG Kumar suspended Inspector Bamba for his unauthorized absence from the police station Vijaypur and insufficient preparedness to thwart untoward incidents, official sources informed.

The DIG has directed SSP Kathua Shridhar Patil to hold enquiry against the delinquent police officer, they added.

The action on the part of DIG was taken after he paid surprise visit to the police station at 6’o clock in the morning.

“On the basis of the inputs that some untoward incident may take place in police stations along the National Highway, I paid surprise visit to check the alertness and security aspects of Police Stations in district Samba in the early hours and found SHO Vijaypur Rakesh Bamba absent from his duties following which action has been taken against him”, DIG Kumar informed The News Now.

Official sources said that DIG during checking found that the Sentry was deployed without wearing Bullet Proof (BP) jacket and Patka at the main entry gate of Police Station Vijaypur and videography of the same was recorded by him on the spot.

“DIG also observed that the Daily Diary on the CCTN Portal was found pending and last maintained on previous day on 23rd, May 2019. Inspector Rakesh Bamba, SHO Police Station Vijaypur was absent and there was no entry regarding his movement in the daily diary,” sources said.

“The Munshi of police station Vijaypur was unable to produce record of other movement order, wireless message,” they added.

On this grave negligence on the part of security lapse of Police Station Vijaypur and carelessness and indiscipline on the part of duty of SHO, DIG placed him under suspension.

He was directed to deposit uniform articles in equipment store DPL Samba while Shridhar Patil, SSP Kathua, was asked to hold a departmental enquiry against delinquent officer and submit his finding to the Zonal Police Headquarters with specific recommendation within 15 days.

Meanwhile, whispering started within police circle as it was claimed that the mobile phone of the SHO Bamba was out of network coverage even though many attempts were made by his subordinates to inform him about the action against him.

“It was only at 10 am Inspector Bamba came to know about the incident. Bamba was in court premises with a case dairy of FIR NO 49/2017 to be produced before court on direction of DIG concerned when he got information about his suspension,” sources said.
Meanwhile, DIG Sujit Kumar when apprised of the matter, said, “I paid visit to police station early morning. Which court turns up at 6 o’clock in morning?”
