21578 voters choose NOTA

JAMMU: More than twenty one thousand voters rejected all the candidates contesting on six parliamentary seats of Jammu and Kashmir by pressing 'None of The Above' (NOTA) option on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during polling.

Out of total 34,95,923 voters, who had exercised their franchise in the recently concluded LS polls, 21,578 voters have rejected all the candidates. The Lok Sabha elections, conducted in five phases in Jammu and Kashmir, begun on April 11 and ended on May 6th.

As per the data, parliamentary constituency, Baramulla has the highest number of voters, who opted for NOTA during the polling for general elections 2019. Out of total voters in the constituency who had exercised their franchise, 1.79 per cent voters press NOTA option. A total of 8113 voters rejected all the candidates contesting from this seat.

Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency has second highest number of voters, who opted for NOTA. Out the total voters in the constituency who cast votes, 0.64 per cent voters opted for NOTA. A total of 7506 voters rejected all the candidates contesting from this seat including sitting MP and union Minister MoS PMO, Jitendra Singh.

Out of total voters, who cast vote in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, 0.84 percent voters opted for NOTA. A total of 1566 voters rejected all the candidates contesting from this seat including Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

Nearly, 2546 voters opted for NOTA in Jammu Lok Sabha constituency. Out the total voters in the constituency, 0.17 per cent voters rejected all the candidates contesting on the seat including sitting MP Jugal Kishore Sharma.

In Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency, 937 voters rejected all the candidates by pressing NOTA on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during polling.

The Ladakh parliamentary constituency has lowest voters, who opted for NOTA. Out of total voters, who cast votes in the constituency, 910 voters rejected all the candidates.

The NOTA option, which was introduced for the first time in 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

In 2014, Lok Sabha elections, as many as 31,529 voters have rejected all the candidates in the fray for the six Lok Sabha seats by pressing the 'None Of The Above' (NOTA) option during polling in the state.
