Chargesheet in Sumbal rape soon: Police

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police will "soon" file a charge sheet in the Sumbal rape case, a statement issued today said.
Tahir Ahmad Mir was arrested for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl in Sumbal area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
"Police will file the chargesheet in the competent court of law against the accused person soon," a police spokesman said.
“There is no truth in the suggestions that the medical examination of the girl had not established sexual assault. The incident of assault on three-year-old child in Sumbal (Bandipora) is very much true and based on facts,” he said.
"Strict action will be taken against people spreading false and misleading information on this account," the official said.
The case is being probed by a Special Investigation Team.
Mainstream political parties and separatist groups in the state had condemned incident and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority Wednesday released Rs 1 lakh as an interim relief to the minor rape victim.
The amount was released under J&K Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013, an official spokesperson said.
"On the recommendations of chairman district legal services authority, Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) today released an amount of Rs 1 lakh as interim relief to the minor victim of Sumbal incident," he said.
