Governor inaugurates second phase Jahangir Chowk- Rambagh flyover

Srinagar, May 22: The second phase of Jahangir Chowk- Rambagh flyover was inaugurated by Governor Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday and was thrown open for vehicular movement.

The second phase of the flyover stretching from Rambagh to Alochi Bagh has been constructed at a cost of Rs 37.5 crore. The stretch will provide substantial relief to commuters traveling towards Lal Chowk is seen as a significant remedy to traffic congestion.

Once completed, the 2.4-kilometer flyover with six access ramps – including at Jehangir Chowk, Gogji Bagh, Alochi Bagh, Rambagh, Natipora and Barzulla – will substantially decongest city traffic and reduce travel time between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh from about 45 minutes as it takes now to about 2.5 minutes.

Speaking to the media on the sideline of the function, Governor Satya Pal Malik said that the third and the last phase of the flyover will be completed by the month of June. He further said that Amarnath Yatra will be conducted safely as it was conducted last year.

On being asked about the assembly election in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Governor said it the Election Commission of India that will decide the elections across the state. He further refuted the claims that in the current administration officers are against holding the assembly elections as we want it to happen at earliest.

Governor and District administration Srinagar has been at the forefront of efforts to speed up the construction of the flyover project having been regularly monitoring construction work and redressing related concerns.
