9.5 lakh Kanal State, 1.10 lakh Kanal EP land illegally occupied

JAMMU: In a startling revelation, it came to fore that around 9.5 lakh kanals of State/Zazool land and around 1. 10 lakh kanals of Evacuees' Property (EP) Land in Jammu and Kashmir is still under the illegal occupation of encroachers.
This information was tabled in the lower house of the legislatures in reply to a written question of CPI (M) legislator, Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami by the Minister Incharge Revenue, Abdul Rehman Veeri.
According to the official reply tabled in the LA, total 16,64,299 kanal and 89 marlas of State land and 1,11,19 kanals and 83 marlas of EP land has been encroached by the illegal occupants in the State out of which 7,10,365 kanals and 4 marlas of State land and 1,422 kanals and 75 marlas of EP has been retrieved by the Revenue Department.
"Thus, 9,53,934 kanals and 49 marlas of State land and 1,09,697 kanals and 8 marlas of EP land is still under the un-authorized occupation of illegal occupants," the official reply reads. The government reply also revealed that Rajouri and Jammu district have the highest encroached State and EP land.
Highest 2,97,417 kanal of State and 50,250 kanal and 5 marlas of EP land was under the un-authorized occupation in Rajouri district out of which 1, 82, 350 kanal of State and 439 kanals and 17 marlas has been retrieved.
While in Jammu district, there was 1, 62, 384 kanals of State and 34, 233 kanals of EP land under the occupation of encroachers out of which 39, 715 kanals of State and 576 kanals and 10 marlas of EP land has been retrieved by the Revenue Department.
As per the government reply, not even a single marla of State or EP land has been encroached in Leh and Kargil district of the State.
