Pulwama, Jan 3: Two villages situated barely 2 kilometres from Pulwama town have never had potable water supply.
While Dodura village has 250 households, the smaller Shangarpora village has about 60 households.

“The government claims the people are being provided all basic facilities on modern lines. We don’t have drinking water facility,” said Showkat Ahmad, a local resident.
“We are forced to bring water from a stream and some people bring from other villages. It is an embarrassment,” Nazeer Ahmad, another resident of Dodura said.
He said the water from the streams is contaminated and local residents, children especially, often suffer from gastro-intestinal problems.

The residents had dug wells years ago but all have dried.
Executive engineer PHE Shopian/ Pulwama Nisar Ahmad Shah said, “We are going to start a scheme for the villages. The cost of the scheme is Rs 26 lakhs. The tender process is complete.”
