J&K saves Rs 405 Cr with 78 Lakh bulbs distributed

JAMMU: Taking benefit of the centrally sponsored Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) scheme, Jammu and Kashmir has saved energy worth Rs 405 Crore, besides registering massive reduction of toxic Carbon Dioxide (CO2) by around 8,19,937 tonnes an year, as around 78 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed across the state, ever since the scheme was launched here. "Since implementation of the UJALA Scheme in J&K, 77,94,652 LED bulbs have been distributed, highest 11,45,442 of them distributed alone in Srinagar district," the official data available with The News Now reads.
With all these bulbs replacing the yore's tungsten bulbs, as much as 10,12,268 Mega Watt-hour (MWh) of energy has also been saved, amounting to cost saving of around Rs 405 Crore. Yet another benefit is reduction in CO2 levels by around 8,19,937 tonnes per year.
Of these bulbs, highest 11,45,442 were distributed in summer capital Srinagar while winter capital Jammu came a close second at 10,55,992 bulbs.
Among others, 5,52,273 bulbs were distributed in Baramulla, 2,06,711 in Bandipora, 1,98,289 in Ganderbal, 2,93,897 in Kupwara, 4,38,167 in Pulwama, 3,00,233 in Budgam, 1,81,782 in Poonch, 1,39,426 in Shopian, 1,68,873 in Rajouri, 2,14,004 in Kulgam, 1,34,175 in Reasi, 3,07,539 in Udhampur, 1,23,293 in Samba district.
A total of 81,864 bulbs were distributed in Kargil, 1,48,302 in Leh, 4,96,869 in Anantnag, 1,51,535 in Doda, 1,02,746 in Kishtwar, 1,01,494 in in Ramban, and 3,00,759 in Kathua district, respectively.
As far as availability of total LED bulbs distribution points/centres is concerned, there are currently 28 such points in Bandipora, 97 in Baramulla, 43 in Ganderbal, 82 in Kupwara, 65 in Pulwama, 91 in Budgam, 11 in Poonch, 28 in Shopian, 40 in Rajouri, 53 in Kulgam, 19 in Reasi, 78 in Jammu, 27 in Udhampur, 9 in Samba, 95 in Srinagar, 4 in Kargil, 1 in Leh, 95 in Anantnag, 20 in Doda, 9 in Kishtwar, 6 in Ramban, and 32 in Kathua district, respectively.
