Police gears up to keep peaceful NY celebrations; Guv, CM greet

JAMMU: Even as Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today greeted the people on the eve of New Year and prayed that 2018 would usher peace and normalcy in the state, the Police in a bid to ensure safe New Year celebrations, have taken a slew of measures which including setting up of extra nakas, besides traffic police which has been taking stringent measures to curb drunken driving.
Official sources, the administration too has asked top cops to issued directions to the subordinates to remain on roads till the New Year celebrations are over. The directions have been issued keeping in view of the safety and security of the people.
Official sources further said that the Station House Officers have been asked to remain extra vigil and not to leave their stations at any cost.
Meanwhile, the traffic Police, in particular, has issued strict order to check drunken persons with breath analyser and punish them as per law.
"Tomorrow from morning to late hours the additional traffic cops will be deployed in Jammu City to check rash and drunken driving. Besisdes, the service of breath analyser will be pressed into service and those found in drunken driving will be punished as per law," said SSP Traffic Nisha Nathyal.
Reports said that to check rash and negligent driving, the police have planned make extra deployment in those locations where New Year celebration parties are to be held.
Meanwhile, on the eve of New Year, Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today greeted the people of the state.
In his message, the governor wished the people of the state a bright and happy New Year and prayed that 2018 would usher peace and normalcy which would promote progress, prosperity and well being of all sections of the society.
In her message, Mufti hoped 2018 would be a year of development, peace, harmony, progress and social integration in the state.
"I earnestly pray that the New Year brings along joy, happiness, peace and prosperity for our people who have suffered immensely," she said.
Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, Chairman, Legislative Council Haji Anayat Ali, Speaker Assembly Kavinder Gupta and Council of Ministers also greeted the people on the New Year eve.
