Veeri emphasizes protection of custodian land, asset mapping

JAMMU: Minister for Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri today stressed upon the need for protecting custodian land from illegal occupation and utilizing the same for carrying out developmental activities and creating public utilities for benefit of the people.
The Minister was chairing a meeting to review the functioning of Evacuee Property Department in Jammu division here, which was attended by Custodian General J&K Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Special Secretary Revenue Farooq A Shah, Custodian Jammu Mushtaq Hussain Malik, Deputy Custodians and field functionaries of the department.
During the meeting, Custodian General J&K gave detailed presentation about the total land, assets created, revenue generation, achievements, staff strength and other issues of the department.
It was informed that department has a total of 14, 12,006 kanal land in its control in Jammu division. Giving details of the EP land under illegal occupants, the meeting was informed that 164400 kanal land is illegally occupied and department has retrieved around 1399 kanal of land.
Taking note of this, the Minister directed the officers to put in a mechanism of strong monitoring of department land and expedite the process of retrieving encroached land. He also asked to fence the land wherever required for the protection purpose.
Besides, this the Minister also asked the concerned officers to undertake mapping of EP assets by using scientific methods with a view to ensure protection, safeguard the property and to prevent any sort of avertable encroachments.
Meanwhile, the Minister today visited the Legislature Complex here to personally take stock of the arrangements for the upcoming Budget Session.
Veeri visited various sections of the Legislature Complex for first hand appraisal of the preparations being made for the smooth conduct of the session beginning January 02, 2018.
He asked the officers to ensure all facilities for the legislators and carry out necessary works before the start of the session.
Secretary Legislative Assembly M. R. Singh, Director Estates Tassaduq Jeelani and officers of Assembly Secretariat were also present on the occasion.
