JAMMU: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate Deewakar Sharma seeking direction to Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) to immediately start construction of International Stadium at Bajalta in Jammu soon after the release of already sanctioned amount of Rs.100.00 Crore, the Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Kumar constituted a committee to survey the area at Bajalta, which has been earmarked for a Cricket Stadium, to report whether it is a flood prone.
When the PIL came up for hearing, the Division Bench observed that Advocate General has placed before the Court a copy of the order dated 21.12.2017, which has been issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu. The copy is taken on record. As per the order, the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu is to constitute a committee of officers to survey the area at Bajalta, which has been earmarked for a Cricket Stadium, to report whether it is flood prone etc. The Committee shall comprise of Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Jammu; Superintending Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Jammu and Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic, Jammu.
The Division Bench further observed that the learned Advocate General informed the Court that the Superintending Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Jammu and Superintending Engineer, Hydraulic, Jammu is the very same person.
Therefore, there will be two additional persons in the committee Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu and Executive Engineer, Flood Control Division, Jammu, the Court observed and directed Advocate General to place on the report on next date of hearing.
In the PIL, it has been submitted that eleven years has been passed in handing over of above said land and in allotment of Rs. 100 Crore for construction of International Cricket Stadium at Bajalta, Jammu but till date not even a single penny has been released in favour of JKCA.
