BHU expels 13 students over violence

Varanasi, Dec 29: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Thursday evening expelled 13 students in connection with the violence that followed the arrest of a student leader.

The public relations officer of BHU, Dr Rajesh Singh, said the university’s registrar (academic) issued the order of expulsion of post-graduate students Gaurav Kumar and Pravin Rai, and graduation students Shubham Tiwari, Bittu Kumar Singh, Ghulam Sarwar, Gaurav Kumar, Abhijit Misra, Rudra Pratap Singh, Saurabh Rai, Laxminarain Sharma, Satyam Rai, Himanshu Prabhakar and diploma course student Dhiraj Singh.

Singh said that since these students were embroiled in serious criminal cases lodged in Lanka police station, they will remain suspended until their cases are expedited.

On December 20, following the arrest of student leader Ashutosh these students had indulged in arson and violence on the university campus.
