Enhance green space of Srinagar: HC directs govt

Srinagar, Dec 29: The High Court on Thursday directed the government to implement the action plan for enhancing the green space of Srinagar, Jammu cities and ensure that the capital cities will become vibrant environmentally.
A division bench of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice M K Hanjura directed the chief secretary to take into confidence all the concerned officers to implement the action plan for enhancing the green space in Srinagar and Jammu cities.

The court also sought to restore all spaces and parks to cater to the four seasons and ensure that the two cities will become vibrant environmentally.

“There are different sessions. So it is imperative to have parks which are green and festive perennially during all the sessions,” the court observed while hearing a suo moto Public Interest Litigation.

The court said a draft be finalized in coordination with all the concerned officers and a report be filed by the next date of hearing and listed the case for further consideration in 3rd week of February next year.

In its status report, Housing and Urban Development Department had furnished some photographs and the draft action plan formulated by chief town planner Kashmir for augmentation in Srinagar city.

Earlier, the High Court had directed director Gardens and Parks Kashmir to furnish list of the spots classified as public parks in Srinagar.

The court had sought the list after it found that some of the gardens, parks shown in the list were not classified as public parks.

The Court had asked the chief town planner to see if the public parks existing in Srinagar city are adequate as per norms of a planned city
