Srinagar, Dec 29: Police today disallowed the proposed executive council meeting of Hurriyat Conference (G) which was scheduled to be held today at Hyderpora here.
“The meeting was convened by Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani to discuss several important issues, however police sealed all roads leading to his residence at Hyderpora thereby disallowing the proposed meeting,” a spokesman of the Hurriyat, in a statement today, said, adding, “Police in large numbers was deployed and no one was allowed to enter the venue of meeting.”

The spokesman said, “The police during raids arrested several amalgam leaders including Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Muhammad Ashraf Laya, Bilal Sidiqee, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Omar Adil Dar and placed other leaders including Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Ghulam Nabi Sumji under house arrest.”
Meanwhile, Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani, while lashing at authorities for arresting the amalgam leaders and disallowing its executive council meeting, in a statement today, said, “They (police) are playing with fire. Their despotic attitude is the root cause of uncertainty and horrendous situations in state.”
Terming the curbs as ‘unjustified and unconstitutional’, Geelani said, “The anti-Kashmiri state resorted to its usual tactic of curbing the leadership and gagging their voices, once again showing that Kashmir is ruled by the forces' might."

Reacting to the social media gag on employees, Geelani termed it as the worst form of state terrorism.
Geelani said, “It is aimed at concealing harsh realities and atrocities perpetrated in Jammu and Kashmir. By imposing the arbitrary measures, they are trampling basic and fundamental rights and pushing state to stone-age. It is unjustified, illogical and unconstitutional. The puppet authorities are hell-bent to create graveyard silence and they are shielding criminals.”
“The authorities feel insecure about the world opinion regarding deteriorating situations in Kashmir, hence strangulating genuine voices and resorting to harsh measures to conceal its inhuman military might against unarmed civilians.”
