Drive for axing FRP tress begins in Shopian

SHOPIAN, APRIL 7: As ordered by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Choudhary Mohammad Yasin, constituted a team of officers of Revenue and Social Forestry for axing all Russian female Poplar trees in the district on state and Kahcharie land including in private land within 500 meters from village habitation.
The Deputy Commissioner said that 30 percent of the axing Russian poplar trees in the district has already been completed keeping in view the spreading of Novel Corona virus infection and to keep the environment neat and clean.
A team of Revenue department and Social forestry corporation ( SFC) Shopian ,headed by the concerned Tehsildars of all the tehsils of the district have started the cutting of poplar trees in the district immediately after the directions were passed by the district administration.
The process of cutting of these trees is supervised by the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, who sought support and cooperation from the locals to make the drive a success. He said that the female poplar trees pollens developing female Russian Populars are considered a health hazard by the experts and are responsible for developing allergic conditions in humans.
