DLSA team visits Central, District Jail
Collects data of prisoners eligible for their release as per criteria

JAMMU, APRIL 07: On the directions of Secretary District Legal Services Authority Naushad Ahmed Khan, Advocate Leena Devi, Panel Lawyer and Advocate Deepali Arora, Retainer Lawyer of DLSA today visited District Jail Amphalla in presence of SP Salim Beig and Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu in presence SSP Dinesh Sharma to collect data of the prisoners lodged therein who are eligible for their release as per the criteria/parameters laid down for their consideration of bails/interim bails, in compliance with the High Power Committee's directions and in granting them help from the concerned Courts, where they are facing trials and to assist the jail authorities for expediting their cases.
Jail authorities apprised the visiting advocates that the main hurdle in the release of these eligible prisoners on parole is that their families are unable to furnish the surety bond in the Court of the Executive Magistrate due to the restrictions on their entry in the premises of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu.
The visiting advocates telephonically contacted the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu to allow these sureties to execute the surety bonds before the Executive Magistrate and the contact numbers of both the visiting advocates were provided to the said families of the prisoners by the jail authorities.
The advocates also took consent of the Under Trial Prisoners and advised them to report to the concerned Courts after lock down period has been over. Jail Authorities were also directed to furnish the list of the prisoners who are sick, infirm, requiring specialized medical treatment, of unsound mind and prisoners above fifty years along with their medical record in the office of the Secretary DLSA Jammu within two days.
The prisoners and the jail authorities were advised to heed to the advisory and guidelines issued by Government and Health Department from time to time for the curtailment of Corona Virus infection strictly.
