COVID-19: 3 more test positive in Kashmir, J&K’s tally now 109
Number of Red Zones across UT goes up to 59

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: After witnessing a record number of 31 new cases in last two days, the upward mounting of Coronavirus slowed down a little on Monday, when only three new persons tested positive for the deadly disease, taking the total number of confirmed patients in Jammu and Kashmir to 109.
In its efforts to control the further spread of the COVID-19, the government has also increased the number of red zone areas was also to 59 across the union territory.
“Status Update - 3 new cases so far- all in Kashmir; Hope no further increases today !!!,” government spokesman Rohit Kansal tweeted on Monday.
All the new cases reported on Monday were from Kashmir, taking the total number of patients in the Valley to 88, while Jammu region recorded no new case for the second consecutive day, its total remaining steady at 21.
Of the 109, 103 are active cases, as four have recovered—3 in Jammu region and 1 in Kashmir and two have died, both in Valley.
Two of three new cases are reported in Srinagar and one in Uri in Baramulla district.
“One patient is a resident of Nowshera and other of Chattabal in Srinagar. Both of have them have come in contacts with previous Covid-19 patients,” officials said.
As per the sources, the patient from the Uri is a 41-year-old woman whose husband-- a teacher-- has tested positive earlier.
The government also informed that the 103 active cases are admitted in seven hospital across the UT.
“Maximum 26 patients are admitted in SKIMS Srinagar, followed by 21 in CD Hospital Srinagar, 19 in GMC Baramulla, and 18 in GMC Jammu,” it said.
Nine patients each are admitted in DH Pulwama and JLNM Hospital Srinagar, while one patient is admitted in JVC Bemina, it added.
Director National Health Mission, Jammu and Kashmir Bhupinder Kumar said, “Three new cases were reported in Kashmir division. There are specific areas where Coronavirus cases are reported in large numbers and in those areas more surveillance is being activates. Our team is actively working on those areas and if any case any suspect is found then they are brought under monitoring”.
In its daily media bulletin on the COVID-19 situation, the administration said that 35,243 travellers and contacts of suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 10,556 in home-quarantine.
Others include 615 in hospital quarantine, 103 in hospital isolation and 17,506 under home surveillance. Besides, 6,463 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period, the bulletin said.
The bulletin said that till date 1,708 samples have been sent for testing of which 1,583 have tested as negative, and 16 reports are awaited as on Monday.
Meanwhile, the authorities declared more areas as 'red zones' on Monday, taking the total number of such prohibited zones across the UT to 59—24 in Jammu region and 35 in Kashmir Valley.
A district-wise break up shows that in Jammu division, a total of 13 hotspots have been identified in Udhampur district including Kotli Pian, Maglote, Rakh Sansoo, Padanoo, Chopra Shop, Morha Duggar Jib, Thaplal, KannaALS, Marta, Dalsar, Kheen, Kirmoo and Ramnagar Town including Suka Talab; six areas in Jammu including Bathindi, Sunjawan, Gujjar Nagar, Janipur, Bhawani Nagar and Kalika Colony; and five villages in Rajouri including Saroola, Mangalnar, Dehridhara, Ghambir Mughlan and Kotli.
Similarly in Kashmir Valley, eleven areas have been declared red zones in Bandipora, seven in Pulwama, six in Srinagar, four in Budgam, three in Baramulla, and two each in Shopian and Ganderbal districts.
On Monday, Srinagar administration declared as containment zone the Chattabal area of the district and sealed all entries and exits leading into and out of area, after several cases of COVID-19 affected persons were reported therefrom.
District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary who issued an order in this regard Monday said the sealing of the area is aimed at preventing spread of the coronavirus infection out of this area having reported several positive cases.
After first positive COVID-19 case was reported from village Guzhama, tehsil Wakura in the district Ganderbal, District Magistrate (DM), Shafqat Iqbal declared Guzhama village as Red Zone and its surrounding villages including Batpora and Khanpora as Buffer Zones.
Invoking prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, Disaster Management Act, 2005 and Epidemic Diseases Act 1897, he said that there will be no inward and outward movement of any person from the village declared Red zone.
In Bandipora, Deputy Commissioner Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza, today imposed ban on entry of people into Gurez valley as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of COVID-19.
The DC said that no vehicular movement as well as travel on foot will be allowed on Bandipora-Gurez road, with immediate effect. He directed Police and concerned BSF Unit at Tragbal to strictly implement the directions.
Meanwhile, all movement passes for travel to Gurez valley issued by any authorities have been withdrawn and cancelled with immediate effect and no new passes will be issued without prior permission from the District Magistrate.
