ALC issues instruction to contractors, employers, landlords

UDHAMPUR, APRIL 05:- As complete lock down has been announced for 21 days to contain spread of COVID-19 and to maintain safe social distance. Public has been advised to stay safe at home.
It was observed that some contractors whose labour is stranded in Udhampur are not providing food/ ration to the labourers and are refusing to provide shelter during lockdown. In view of existing pandemic situation, it may not be possible for labourers to arrange ration/ food/shelter.
Assistant Labour Commissioner, Udhampur Dr Ranjeet Singh asked all the contractors/employers of the stranded labourers and landlords in the district to follow the instructions issued by Government from time to time, failing which strict action will be taken against the defaulters.
Some complaints have also been lodged that labourers are being harassed by their employers and are denying the shelter.
Ministry of Home affairs, Government of India has issued order that employer should be present in the industries/ Shops/Commercial establishment. / Contractors shall make payment of wages of their workers at their work place on due date without any deductions.
Further the employer/ landlord shall not demand payment of rent for a period of one month. If any employer forcing labourers to leave the premises and not providing shelter will be liable for action under act.
