All govt employees donate 1-day salary

JAMMU: With Contribution pouring in from all quarters of society to assist the administration in fighting against the Coronavirus, the J&K government has decided to contribute one-day salary of each of its over 3.5 lakh employees towards J&K relief fund.
The decision was taken on Saturday after a number of employee organisations and associations expressed desire to contribute their bit in govt’s fight against pandemic.
As of Saturday, at least 94 persons have tested positive, 2 have died and over 25000 people are put under observation.
The government had last week set up J&K relief fund seeking donations from employees, organisations, associations etc.
“Various employee organisations and associations have expressed desire to contribute one day’s salary towards relief fund in view of covid-19 pandemic,” Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, financial commissioner, finance department said.
“It is, therefore, enjoined upon all drawing and distributing officers of J&K union territory that an amount equal to one day’s basic salary of every employee may be deducted from the salary for the month of March, 2020 on voluntary basis. However, the employees shall be free to donate in excess of one day’s basic salary, if they wish so. The amount deducted shall be credited into account J&K relief fund.” reads an official order issued by him.
It may be mentioned that ever since the setting up J&K relief fund, the contribution pouring in from various stakeholders of the society. Even on Saturday, J&K Paramedical Council donates Rs 2 crore towards J&K Relief Fund
Dr Sunanda Raina, Dean Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, who is also the President of Jammu and Kashmir Paramedical Council, presented a cheque of Rs 2 crores to the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu as a contribution to J&K Relief Fund. The amount has been contributed by the members of the J&K Paramedical Council towards the efforts being undertaken to combat COVID-19 pandemic.
The Lt Governor lauded the crucial, life-saving role being played by the paramedics along with other front-line warriors in the battle against COVID-19.
