JAMMU: To ensure smooth restarting of industrial units engaged in manufacturing of essential commodities or their packing material, during the period of lockdown, the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Jammu, has declared the names of the officers who shall liaise with the district administrations.
The official document dated 1 April 2020 accessed by The News Now states, “It is hereby ordered that the Prateek Panjathia, Jr KAS, Functional Manager, shall liaise with the district administration of Jammu with respect to the industrial units located in the district.”
Additionally, “Mohd Ashraf, Jr KAS, Project Manager, shall liaise with the district administration of Samba with respect to the industrial units located in the district.”
“While it is necessary to make the lockdown successful in the interest of the nation and its citizens’ health, maintaining the supply chain of essential commodities is important too. Under the prevailing conditions, several industrial units have consented to restart their operations, as they manufacture products or packaging material for the products that have been listed as essential commodities,” says and industrialist from Jammu.
He adds that the unit holders have agreed to conditions specified by the Directorate of Industries & Commerce to ensure social distancing, minimal staff, minimal movement, hygiene, health check up facilities, etc.
“However, the problem was being faced in procuring the passes from the district administrations for movement of staff, raw materials, and finished goods. I live in Jammu and my industry is in Samba, which means, I have to visit district headquarters at both the places. It is not feasible owing to the restrictions during lockdown. We hope that the officers appointed for liaisoning will ease out the process,” he mentions while suggesting that authorities can consider issuing e-passes to the concerned unit holders.
The ‘liaisoning’ officers for Jammu and Samba have been asked to remain stationed at the respective district headquarters; accept requests for the issuance of passes/permissions from the unit holders for the movement of staff; liaise with the district administration for the issuance of passes.
“While making arrangements, the officers shall ensure implementation of the directions issued in the meeting held on 27 March 2020 under the chairmanship of Commissioner/ Secretary to the Government, Industries & Commerce Department in the office of DC Samba, subsequent orders of Director Industries & Commerce and General Manager, Industries & Commerce,” the order says.
