JAMMU: While the world battles the coronavirus, Pakistan continued its nefarious designs, violating the peace truce along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir, even as two Army soldiers have been reported to have received injuries in Pakistani firing.
The enemy nation has been resorting to unprovoked firing since past few days but on Thursday, it intensified the firing along both LoC and IB.
Two Army soldiers were injured as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control in Balakote sector of Poonch district, drawing strong retaliation from Indian Army.
“The Pakistani troops fired small arms and mortar shells towards Indian positions in Balakote area of the Poonch district on early Thursday morning,” an Army official said.
“Two soldiers identified as Naib Subedar Satpal and Havaldar Dharmpal of 14 Punjab Regiment suffered splinter injuries in the firing,” he said.
Both the injured were immediately taken to Militarily Hospital Rajouri for treatment, he added.
The official said that the Indian Army gave a befitting reply to the unprovoked aggression and retaliated in adequate measure.
On late Thursday evening, Pakistan rangers fired mortar shells and opened fire on forward areas along the IB in Chadwal sector in Kathua district, officials said.
“The firing was reported at Satpal and Manyari Border Out Posts of 19 Battallion of BSF at 10:25 pm in sector Chadwal,” they said.
BSF troops guarding the border retaliated resulting in brief exchanges, they said.
There were a total of 646 incidents of ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pakistan International Border (IB) as well as the LoC between January 1 and February 23 this year, Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said on Wednesday.
Over 3200 ceasefire violations by Pakistan troops were recorded in 2019.
