10 areas in Kashmir declared red zones, total 30 across UT

SRINAGAR: The administration on Tuesday declared more areas in at least six districts of Kashmir as red zones following detection of fresh cases of COVID-19 in the valley.
At least 20 areas in Bandipora, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Shopian, Srinagar and Budgam districts of Kashmir division have been declared as red zones, which coupled with 10 areas in Jammu and Rajouri districts of Jammu region take the total number of red zones across Jammu and Kashmir to 30.
The areas declared red zones in Kashmir are Parray Mohala Hajin, Chandergeer Hajin and Batagund Hajin in Bandipora district of north Kashmir and Gudoora, Chandgam, Pinglena, Parigam, Abhama, Sangerwani and Khaigam in Pulwama district of south, the officials said.
Waskura in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir and Sedew and Ramnagri in Shopian district in south Kashmir have also been declared as red zones, they added.
The officials said Mehjoor Nagar, Natipora, Lal Bazar, Eidgah and Shalteng in Srinagar district and Chadoora in Budgam district of central Kashmir are the other areas which have been declared as red zones.
The officials said there would be no inward and outward movement of any person from the areas declared as red zones and the people would stay inside their homes to ensure complete lockdown.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said the sealing of the areas is important and indispensable. “With some more cases coming positive these areas will be restricted till all precautions and measures are in places,” he added.
Five villages in Rajouri and five areas of Jammu city including Bhatindi, Sunjawan, Gujjar Nagar, Bhawani Nagar and Janipur have already been under restrictions.
Officials said no movement of people is being allowed in areas declared as red zones to check the spread of coronavirus.
Meanwhile, at least 78 people who had returned from Leh and were put under quarantine were allowed to go home after completing 14 days. All the 78 people who had returned from Leh were kept at a private hotel Heemal in Srinagar where from the first group who had returned from Leh.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration appreciate the people for their support during quarantine period. Sharing the detail Additional Deputy Commissioner ( ADC) Srinagar Syed Haneef Balkhi said that 78 people who belonged to various parts of Kashmir like Kupwara, Baramulla, Anantnag, Pulwama and few were from Chanapora and Nishat who came from Leh in a flight and were put under quarantine were allowed to go home after completing mandatory quarantine period.
He said it was the first batch of "successful quarantine" which completed their 14 day period in one of the best hotel in Srinagar. "All of them are in good health and were cheerful," he said. He said that they have set the example for others who should also cooperate and follow suit.
Adding that he said that all the people were sent back in SRTC buses and they will be dropped at home, however they have been asked to remain at home for next 14 days and not to meet anyone
“There was no problem here the administration provided all the support and they were there round the clock. Not only that doctors also visited us and were checking as per the protocol every now and then”, said one of the people who was quarantined.
