Govt identifies 52000 migrant, 1.45 lakh registered labourers across J&K

JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has devised a comprehensive strategy to feed over 50,000 inter-state stranded migrant and to provide financial assistance to 1.45 lakh construction workers registered with J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
Moreover, out of the total funds sanctioned by government to distribute among registered workers during lockdown, 18 per cent has been disbursed so far among around 28000 labourers through DBT mode.
“We have total 52,500 stranded migrant labourers in Jammu and Kashmir including 14500 in Kashmir region and 38000 in Jammu region. Apart this, there are 3.45 lakh labourers, out of which 1.45 lakh are registered J&K Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board,” J&K Labour Commissioner, Abdul Rashid War told The News Now.
“We have notified a number of our officers for their help and our team will address the issues, whether it is their food or travel, with the deputy commissioners concerned and try to mitigate their problems,” War added.
“There are clear directions from J&K administration to concerned deputy commissioners to distribute food packets containing rice, oil, pulses, spices and other essentials among migrant labours,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the government on March 30 sanctioned Rs 17.65 crore for construction workers registered with the J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board who have been left without any work due to lockdown announced in view of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Accordingly, the government sanctioned Rs 1000 each in favour of active registered construction workers.
“Out of total sanctioned amount 18 percent (3.2 crore) amount is distributed among registered labourers in the different districts of J&K,” an another official said.
Giving details he said, Labour Department, Kulgam disbursed an amount of Rs 84.7 lakh among 8479 worker, District Administration Kupwara distributed Rupees 1.45 Crore among 1880 beneficiaries and in Bandipora amount of Rs 81.69 lakh was distributed among 8169 registered labourers.
Similarly, an amount of Rs 9.47 lakh was disbursed in district Reasi.
